EDA Start-Up Veteran Simon Davidmann Joins CriticalBlue's Board Of Directors
Edinburgh, Scotland – May 12, 2003 - CriticalBlue, an Electronic Design Automation (EDA) start-up set to launch during DAC 2003, has today announced the election of Simon Davidmann to serve as a member of its board of directors.
Davidmann's 15 years as an entrepreneur in the EDA industry has spanned 5 US based EDA start-up companies that have all seen success through acquisition. His distinguished career began as a research fellow at Brunel University where he and a small team developed HILO – the first RTL simulation system. The companies he has worked with have developed and marketed new and significant implementation tools for the design of complex electronic systems. As European founder or first employee, Davidmann successfully started and developed such companies as Gateway Design Automation, Chronologic Simulation, Virtual Chips, and Ambit Design Automation. His most recent position was as co-founder and CEO of Co-Design Automation, which he grew to 18 employees and which was acquired by Synopsys in September 2002. He holds an MSc, and BSc in EE from Essex, University, UK.
Simon Davidmann's appointment to CriticalBlue's Board of Directors represents his first new engagement since completing the transition of Co-Design Automation into Synopsys.
"In the 1990's most major advancements in implementation tools were focused in and around the RTL to GDSII flow. As product differentiation becomes more of a software issue, I believe that efficient implementation options from the embedded software domain are a key challenge for our industry," commented Davidmann. "The Cascade Tool Suite is intuitive, innovative, and delivers a solution for rapidly migrating software onto an appropriate hardware platform. CriticalBlue is spearheading the next generation of embedded system implementation."
"Simon's experience and perspective is not something that many start-up companies have access to," stated Ben Hounsell, CEO, CriticalBlue. "We are delighted that he is as enthusiastic about CriticalBlue as we are. His contributions are already proving invaluable to us as we bring the Cascade Tool Suite to the market."
"CriticalBlue is destined to be a major player in the EDA market," commented Rory MacNeil, Chairman, CriticalBlue. "Simon's appointment to the board is another example of our desire and our ability to attract high quality individuals into the company."
CriticalBlue Road Map
CriticalBlue will officially launch its Cascade Design Suite Tool solution at this year's Design Automation Conference (DAC), in Anaheim, California, June 2-5, 2003. To see a demonstration at DAC, please sign-up on our web site at www.criticalblue.com.
The Company is focused on delivering hardware/software designers a systems solution that offers a new implementation capability within their existing design flows, and based on existing languages. Its tool suite reduces development times, an offers a wider range of implementation alternatives, as well as flexible end products. CriticalBlue will follow the Cascade launch with more highly domain and function specific enhancements, which will further increase implementation efficiency both in terms of performance and development time.
About CriticalBlue
CriticalBlue is focused on delivering EDA tools for accelerating software in embedded microprocessor applications to key design houses and semiconductor vendors in the telecommunication, automotive and multimedia industries. The Cascade tool suite provides a broader range of implementation options within existing electronic design flows, as well as minimizing risk and development time. This is achieved by analyzing application software and automatically generating an appropriate co-processor, designed to accelerate tasks written for a general-purpose microprocessor.
